Chapter Nineteen

What the hell had happened? Or perhaps, I should avoid that analogy now I’d just pledged myself to the dark masters of that dominion. My breathing sped up, my brain unable to process the things it had seen and experienced. Even this morning, I would have laughed in the face of someone who believed in this lunacy—I’d never bought into all this supernatural crap—but now, what choice was there?

I’d seen Raif literally walk out of my dreams. I’d seen him produce a meal and fire from thin air, and I’d felt the influence of him over my own body and mind. None of that was possible, yet all of it had happened, and that was before I’d even considered the incredible sex we’d just shared.

My head was spinning.

“What happens now, M-master?” I tripped over the final word, clenching my sex when I finally managed it.

I had fantasized about calling a worthy suitor sir for longer than I could recall, but Master wasn’t even a notion I’d contemplated. It sounded so final as if I was less than him. I startled, acknowledging the truth. Raif was a freaking demon! Of course, I was less than him, and I didn’t know how I felt about that. On the one hand, the idea was riling. I had been brought up to believe I was equal to all men, but my mother had never included lessons on how to manage demonic possessions—ironic really, considering she had been the only reason I had attended church at all.

On the other hand, the tantalizing truth was I was actually more aroused by the idea than irritated, in some primal way, I wanted to be less than him or more specifically, for him to wield power over me. It was Raif’s clout and supremacy, which I found so damn alluring. That and the fact he’d transformed himself into a bloody Adonis of my own creation, yet he had sought my attention. Raif had wanted me.

Of course, I want you.

Will I ever get used to hearing you in my head? I sighed at the quandary, my mind heavy with the burden.

The sound of his laughter echoed in my mind. You will, little fawn.

“Look at me.”

Glancing up, I tried to ignore the swirling darkness around me. Since he’d begun the so-called ceremony, I’d felt the room come to life around us—the shadows shifting as though they were real, the cold air stroking and nipping at my naked flesh, taunting me for the pledge I was about to make—yet I was too fearful to truly acknowledge those things. I knew the passion in Raif’s eyes without needing to meet his gaze. It had pinned my head forward, keeping my focus on the thread-bear carpet at my knees, but now that I met his eyes for the first time since making the vow, I was once again stunned by his enormous height. Raif was so big—so tall and powerful—and I’d just declared him my master.

“You want to know what will happen next?”

“Yes, please, Master.
